Developing a sustainability strategy
NOC*NSF is seeking support in taking the next steps toward becoming a sustainable organization. This trajectory forms the foundation for helping the wider Dutch sports sector move toward sustainability.
NOC*NSF has set the ambition to make the Netherlands the most sporting nation in the world by 2032. Climate change, as well as the availability of land and water and the loss of biodiversity (all planetary boundaries), pose challenges to achieving this ambition. At the same time, the sports sector itself faces a significant sustainability challenge.
NOC*NSF aims to take the lead by gaining clear insight into its own impact, implementing concrete measures based on its role as a frontrunner, and subsequently bundling and sharing knowledge and expertise with sports federations. In this way, NOC*NSF and the federations can jointly harness the inspiring power of sport.
Support us in taking the next steps toward becoming a sustainable organization: for our internal organization, TeamNL, and the affiliated sports federations. This trajectory will serve as the foundation for helping the broader Dutch sports sector become more sustainable.
NOC*NSF aims to map its most relevant stakeholders and conduct a materiality analysis of the sustainability topics most relevant to the organization. For these themes, a quantitative substantiation of environmental impact is required (a “baseline measurement”), covering both the internal organization and TeamNL’s participation in the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris.
In addition, sports federations need to be supported in understanding how they can further improve the sustainability of their sports.
To drive real change, the process must address both data as well as change management processes. We therefore begin with interviews across the different departments of NOC*NSF and an analysis of existing data on current environmental impact. Next, we work with a group of specifically responsible employees to define concrete measures based on the results of the baseline measurement. These measures are then integrated into NOC*NSF’s sustainability strategy.
Several concrete trajectories emerge from this process, aimed at reducing NOC*NSF’s impact, including mobility, catering, HR, IT, energy, partnerships, and procurement policy.Throughout the trajectory, we actively transfer our knowledge and experience to the involved employees, ensuring that we make ourselves redundant over time and that the organization builds the capacity to independently implement the measures in the years ahead.
By early 2025, the baseline measurement will be completed, the materiality analysis finalized, and the measures either implemented or underway. NOC*NSF’s sustainable course for the coming years will be clearly defined, including the pathway to achieve it.
Beyond these concrete outcomes, we are confident that NOC*NSF will be able to continue working independently toward its ambition of making the Netherlands the most sporting nation in the world by 2032.
